The basic characteristics of each of the grant opportunities are listed below each of the grant titles. Links to the grant program websites are also provided for more detailed information about each program.

- BH UWC Consolidated Grant Program

The BH UWC Consolidated Grant Program streamlines administration of State funds, aligning with the Cutting Green Tape initiative. Centered on Embedding Equity, it funds high-impact projects that advance conservation, climate resilience, and access for all through planning, implementation, acquisition, and stewardship & community access grants that deliver equitable, measurable benefits statewide.

Sustainable Transportation Planning Grants fund local and regional multimodal transportation and land use planning projects, transportation planning studies, and multimodal planning studies that further the region’s regional transportation plan/sustainable communities strategy (where applicable), contribute to the state’s greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, and assist in achieving the California Department of Transportation’s mission and grant program objectives.

The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program provides funding for communities to implement mitigation activities that reduce risk to life and property from natural hazards. In California, natural hazards include wildfire, earthquake, drought, extreme weather, flooding, and other natural hazards as defined in the State Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The Federal State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Grant Program provides a Federal funding opportunity to improve American passenger rail assets by funding projects that enhance safety, such as grade crossing projects on a passenger rail route; reduce the State of Good Repair backlog; improve performance; or expand or establish new intercity passenger rail service, including privately operated intercity passenger rail service if an eligible applicant is involved.

The Tire-Derived Aggregate Grant Program provides opportunities to divert waste tires from landfills, prevent illegal tire dumping, and promote markets for recycled-content tire products. The Program provides assistance to civil engineers in solving a variety of engineering challenges using Tire-Derived Aggregate (TDA), which is produced from shredded tires, is lightweight, free-draining, and a less expensive alternative to conventional aggregates.

The Last Mile Freight Program Rebate Opportunity is offering up to $67,000 per vehicle to support the purchase or conversion of Class 4 and Class 5 battery-electric commercial vehicles operating in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, or San Bernardino counties. This program provides a total of $50 million in funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, administered as part of South Coast Air Quality Management District’s INVEST CLEAN program. The goal is to accelerate the adoption of zero-emission trucks, reduce emissions, and improve regional air quality.

The California Department of Housing and Community Development announces the availability of approximately $50 million in funds available through this first round of the Tribal Multifamily Finance Super Notice of Funding Availability. This notice of funding availability makes funds more easily accessible to Tribes and Tribal entities and provides flexible options to address the unique needs of Tribal communities to achieve better outcomes in health, climate, and household stability.

The Permanent Local Housing Allocation Program facilitates housing affordability, particularly for lower- and moderate-income households, by supporting projects that increase housing supply for households at or below 60 percent of area median income, assist affordable owner-occupied workforce housing, and assist persons experiencing or at risk of homelessness. The Permanent Local Housing Allocation promotes projects and programs to meet local governments’ unmet share of regional housing needs allocation while ensuring geographic equity in the distribution of the funds.

The Notice of Funds Available for the Regional Early Action Planning Grant (REAP 2.0) Lasting Affordability Program is a competitive call for applications, with an available budget of $20 million, within the existing REAP 2.0 grant framework. The call is targeted to established housing trust funds and catalyst funds, with innovative financing programs/tools that are ready to receive funding. The maximum award is $5 million.
